Gun for a Mouth was written by David Poe and performed by Gunnar Scott in the Season One episodes Take These Chains from My Heart and Why Don’t You Love Me.
When Will Lexington revealed the secret of his stage appeal, Gunnar put his sage advice to use during open mic night at Tootsie's. He performed the song and received a girl's phone number and an offer from Jack Nelson to lay down a demo. Gunnar claimed the song was his, but it was actually Jason who wrote the song.
It is included on The Music of Nashville (Season 1, Volume 2).
Lyrics[]
I found a girl, and I gave her a ring
She was everything I'm looking for
It's over now, and this is how
I lost the war
Well, my head got heavy as a Christmas cake
And I made a break for the door
A shot so dumb, you shot your tongue
lost the war
But you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
No, you're not the only one with a gun
We kept on talking 'til the morning light
And the night wasn't the night anymore
Beneath the trees, we crushed the leaves
I lost the war
But you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
No, you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
A gun for a mouth
You can shine and spin and kiss me when
I'm hiding from and shoot me down
But there's a red-headed angel in the wings
Singing, "lay down your soul"
It's over now, and this is how
I lost the war
But you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
No, you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
Yeah (x11)
But you're not the only one with a gun for a mouth
Gun for a mouth, gun for a mouth
Gun for a mouth, gun for a mouth
Gun, gun, gun
Gun for a mouth
