Country Music Television (aka CMT) is a basic cable and satellite TV channel that is owned by Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, a unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of Viacom. It was the first nationally available cable channel devoted to country music and country music videos.
On June 10, 2016, it was confirmed that Nashville had been picked up by the network in a joint deal with Hulu for a fifth season after its cancellation by ABC. As a present to all of the fans who had petititoned to save the show the first hour of the two hour season premiere was screened on December 15, 2016. It was repeated on January 5, 2017 along with the following episode and the season was screened in two blocks of 11 episodes, airing from January to March and June to August. In April 2017, the show was renewed for a sixth season and on November 17, 2017, it was confirmed that this would be the final season, due to the network's wish to pursue more unscripted television.
